Proper Airway Function

The upper jaw and maxilla provide the necessary space for the airway to function effectively. When these structures are underdeveloped, it can lead to issues such as mouth breathing, snoring, and sleep apnea, which can negatively impact a child's health and development.

Facial Symmetry

A well-developed maxilla contributes to facial symmetry and aesthetics. It can prevent issues like crowded teeth and facial imbalances, promoting a more attractive appearance.

Healthy Eating Habits

A wide arch and maxilla provide ample space for teeth, which is essential for proper chewing and digestion. When a child's jaw is underdeveloped, it can lead to feeding difficulties and poor nutrition.

Speech Development

The alignment of the upper jaw and maxilla is closely linked to speech development. Issues with these structures can lead to speech impediments and difficulties in communication.

Craniofacial Harmony

A well-developed maxilla and wide arch form the foundation for craniofacial harmony in children. They ensure balanced development of the head and face, enhancing appearance and supporting long-term craniofacial health and stability.

Quality Sleep

Adequate airway space ensures that a child can breathe freely while sleeping, promoting restful and restorative sleep. Sleep is crucial for growth and overall well-being.

DO WIDE
ARCHES MATTER?

A wide arch and well-developed maxilla are crucial for a child's optimal growth and well-being. They support proper airway function, preventing issues like mouth breathing and sleep apnea, and contribute to facial symmetry and self-confidence. Additionally, their alignment is closely tied to speech development, and they provide space for teeth and promote restful sleep, all vital for a child's overall health and development.

THE PATH TO HEALTHY GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT BEGINS WITH AWARENESS.

At the Tongue-Tie + Airway Center of Southern Maryland, we are on a mission to empower optimal oral health and well-being in children. We believe that understanding the impacts of tongue-tie and chronic mouth breathing is essential to ensuring healthy growth and development, particularly when it comes to the jaw and airways.

They treated both my children for pretty extreme tongue tie. My son's was so bad that they adjusted their whole schedule to fit him in as quickly as possible to make sure he was taken care of immediately. All the staff are so quick, knowledgeable, and really kind with the patients and parents. They went above and beyond to take extremely good care of my family, and I'm very grateful.

I brought my 3-week-old son for a possible tongue tie. We called Tuesday morning and were seen Thursday of the same week! He did have a tongue, lip, and cheek tie in place. Dr. Tamara and Carrie talked to me after filling out a questionnaire, and were able to get a better understanding of what was going on before the examination of his mouth. He was treated the same day to have the ties released; everything was explained to me when I made the appointment from the front end staff, and then in person. Before we left from the treatment, I was given more information about the healing process and follow-up treatment, and why it was important. I was shown and assisted with the stretches we would need to do for three weeks to help him recover now and in the future. No question was too small to be answered. They made me feel very comfortable and at ease. Carrie followed up with us daily for the first week, then as I needed the second week. We had the sites checked at 1 and 2 weeks to ensure he was healing correctly and there was no infection. Once completed, the filing of the claim came up and was explained easily for me to take care of. 100% would recommend going here for a suspected tongue tie; all the staff were amazing and efficient.
